A nice Arctic Grayling taken using a Jock O’ Dee Spey pattern, the larger fish grab a big wet fly without a second thought. Fall is the most reliable time for grayling on my favorite river. I catch these fish using the Spey rods and by swinging traditional Spey & Dee style flies that the fish seem to love. They are available Spring & summer in some places also, but fall is when I think I may break the 3 pound mark with this beautiful species of fish. They don’t get huge here, a 4 pound 13 ounce fish held onto the top spot from 1981 – 2006 when a 5 pound 1 ounce fish was caught out on the Seward Peninsula. I know there’s a big one in the MatSu Drainage, I just have to find it………………. Or you?
