A nice Dolly Varden Char caught on Ard’s Red Head, a Spey styled trout / steelhead fly pattern. These fish are capable of attaining salmon size with good feed. This was a fat one and was so selected for the display here. The char are not the acrobatic fish like rainbow trout or some salmon when you catch one. They tend to pull hard along the lower portion of the water column and can often take some time to land if they have some size and a heavy current where they are found.  Pretty fish; this is a female / hen fish. The males can be very colorful in fall.
